Retaining of processed contents is one important function of the brain. The brain need to record all as information goes through the process. But aside from the information being recorded at that time, people will have to take note of things going on around when they try to recall. There are times when information is not recorded by the brain correctly because of outside forces that prevent it from doing so. There are several memory improvement techniques which bring our focus to what we want to retain and cause us to correctly absorb it in our brains. Having a challenging experience is a tool that can help on how to improve your memory.
Chunking
This technique is one of the oldest and widely used to improve retention.
This is a technique that has been found effective and has been widely used. This allows people to divide the information into smaller units to memorize. Learning for children has been facilitated through the application of this technique. They are taught to group together certain sounds, or chunks, and put them back together to form a word. This may be applied in numerical values such as the social security number. The digits may be grouped together for easier memory retentions. Organizing any information will help the brain to retain and to recall it without problem.
Rhyme, Rhythm, Repetition, and Melody
Rhyming is also an effective technique of committing information to the memory. Individuals may not have any difficulty in recalling the details especially when they remember familiar things in a rhyme. Remembering the information will not be a problem when tunes are included. It may help people to retain information better like how kids memorize and remember the letters of the alphabet by singing it through their nursery song. Repetition may take several rounds before people can commit to memory information as found out by some researches. Conversation with a resourceful person is a way on how to improve your memory.
Acrostics
People can use this method by making a list of the concepts and taking out the initial letters only to create a word that can easily be recalled. In math the order of operations is often referred to as Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally which correlates to Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction.
Write a List
Those who create lists of everything that they should do are better off with accomplishing all of their tasks on time. These lists may be placed in conspicuous areas in the home so that people may be able to focus on the task at hand. Making a master list or simply writing the ideas down on a whiteboard will also help people to work on their specific lists of things to do or to accomplish later and this would also ensure them that they do not miss anything.
