Memory functions include the retention of processed information. As information is being processed, the brain keeps a record of them. Though the brain may have recorded the information, there is also a need to think of other things that were going especially when they start remembering. There are outside influences that distract the brain from recording the information correctly into the memory. Varied methods of improving the memory are available to all people who would like to boost their mental skills in order for them to be able to retain the proper contents.
Chunking
This technique is one of the oldest and widely used to improve retention.
People can make use of this technique to improve their ability to retain information. This method involves cutting down on the contents into manageable chunks. Children in school are able to learn varied concepts through this effective method. They form a word for easier recall and this would come from the different chunks of information or sounds put together. Those who have some difficulties with their social security number may use this method. People may follow a three, two and four format to ease the memory work. Retaining and recalling of the information becomes easy especially when it is organized. You don't get satisfied of having poor memory, you have to improve memory techniques of yours.
Rhyme, Rhythm, Repetition, and Melody
Rhyming is a memorization technique we learned in nursery school. The brain may be able to retrieve the information if people say their rhymes or if they are able to connect it with some things that are familiar. The rhymes may often go with a melody to make it easier to memorize and to remember. Think of the ABCs you learned in kindergarten that was sung to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star as an example of melody and rhythm. To be able to memorize, people will have to say the items not just once but a few times until the brain can retrieve it without problem. There are such vitamins that helps you in improving your memory.
Acrostics
This is the use of the first letter of each word on a list of content you want to remember to create a word. This is particularly used in concepts such as the proper order of operations that need to follow in solving mathematical equations that involve multiplication, division, addition and subtraction.
Write a List
People who make lists are helping themselves to be able to accomplish all tasks that should be done. People may put their lists in some places at home where they can readily see the things that they need to do. Some people may opt to create a master list for everything that they will have to do or they may also choose to make use of a whiteboard where they can simply write everything that they will have to complete.
